Knowledge and resources
Explore ideas, evidence and practical insight from across the NICOLE Foundation’s work and wider environmental network.
Our Knowledge and Resources section brings together white papers, technical perspectives and thought leadership on the environmental challenges that shape our work. Some publications are directly informed by NICOLE Foundation projects. Others explore broader scientific, technical or policy issues that are relevant to the people and organisations working to address environmental pollution.
The purpose is simple: to share useful knowledge, encourage informed discussion and help turn experience into better environmental decision-making.
By sharing what we know – and what we continue to learn – we aim to strengthen the collective response to environmental pollution and help others act with greater confidence, clarity and impact.

Remote sensing for environmental pollution detection: Scientific limitations and the need for ground-truthing
Remote sensing offers a powerful way to identify potential environmental pollution hotspots across large areas. However, satellite observations alone cannot confirm contamination. Understanding their limitations is essential for responsible environmental assessment.
